Research & Analysis Intern - Dynamic behavior of roller coaster trains

On short notice, we are looking for a:

Research & Analysis Intern

Possible start from ±July 2025, for 10 to 15 weeks.

Living in the Netherlands or within commuting distance of the main office in Vlodrop

The dynamic behaviour of roller coaster vehicles significantly impacts g-forces, loads, and passenger comfort. Accurately predicting and optimizing this behaviour is crucial. To achieve this, we utilize the multi-body dynamics (MBD) software MotionView (Altair). We are seeking an intern to assist in integrating MBD into our standard design procedures, aiming for lighter and more cost-effective designs without compromising safety.

What are you going to do?

• Quantify discrepancies in travelled distance calculations within MotionView.

• Determine if the discrepancies require adjustments to the model.

• Conduct simulations to analyse the impact of applied forces on dynamic behaviour.

• Evaluate key parameters such as accelerations and wheel loads.

• Define a standard set of simulation parameters to optimize computation time and result quality.

• Verify and refine track smoothing parameters to reduce noise in simulation results.

What do we expect from you?

• Understanding of multi-body dynamics principles.

• Familiarity with simulations parameters.

• You have analytical problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency in MATLAB.

• Experience with MotionView (Altair) is a plus; training can be provided.
